WATER SPECIALISTS FROM THE WORLD BANK BRIEFS OFFICIALS FROM MINISTRY OF FINANCE

A team from the World Bank Group at Juba office specializing in ground water and led by Mr. Victor Vazquest, held an update meeting with officials from the Ministry of Finance and Planning led by the Undersecretary for Planning, Hon. Angelo Deng Rehan.

The World Bank team briefed the undersecretary about their water-based programs in the country, which they conduct under the theme, ‘ground water for resilient water program’.

The team said the project is implemented in the region at the cost of 300 million USD grant for East and Horn of Africa region.

The program is implemented in phases with the second phase targeting South Sudan and Djibouti both at the cost of 40 Million USD each to boost access to ground water and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in a manner that respects regional sharing of transboundary ground water.

The team also emphasized their commitment to work with the ministry of Water resources and Irrigation to map all the aquifers in the country that has a transboundary effect and draw a plan to mitigate the challenges facing the sector and manage such resources effectively.

The ministry of Finance and Planning commended the efforts of the World Bank water program team and assured commitment to support efforts of funding and cooperation with all the concerned stakeholders to boost service provision.
