Abstract
The paper uses a review-based research methodology to distill key challenges, identify
international best practices, discuss ways to fastrack Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms
and offer options to ensure effective interagency coordination in South Sudan. It finds that while
the PFM reform agenda is progressing in South Sudan, since reinvigorating it in 2020, room exists
to improve interagency working group coordination, and strengthen the budgeting cycles, among
others. The paper concludes by drawing lessons from the international best practices and proffering
some suggestions to accelerate the implementation of the PFM Reform Strategy, with implications
on broader macroeconomic performance.
