MINISTER AWOW VISITS AGRICULTURE BANK TO EXPLORE AREAS COOPERATION

The Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Eng. Awow Daniel Chuang paid a courtesy visit to the premises of Agricultural Bank of South Sudan to inspect the facility and discuss means of funding to support activities of the bank.

The chairperson of the Board of Directors for Agricultural Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Lual Achuek and his Board Members commended the move by the Minister to visit them, adding that it is the first time for a National Minister of Finance to visit the bank, which he said has been neglected for long.

Dr. Lual outlined the board’s plans to rejuvenate activities the bank to support famers with agricultural implements, offer Letters of Credit for traders to supply food commodities, support agriculture battalion to motivate farming in the army and device means to that support bank transfers to discourage bulk cash transactions.

On his part, Minister Awow assured the board and staff members of Agriculture bank that he would continue to frequently visit them to ensure the bank delivers effective and competitive services that generate revenues to the government and render services to the people of South Sudan.

He also pledged to implement the 2003 Maputo declaration of the African Union, which calls for allocation 10% of national budget to support agriculture, food security and rural development as a requirement for a sustainable economy to compliment the President’s directives on boosting agriculture.

Minister Awow told the Board members that his Ministry would provide direct fiscal allocation to the bank to support their activities with hopes of boosting agriculture specially in the current rain season to ensure food sufficiency and surplus production for export.
