SOUTH SUDAN LAUNCHES A VOLUNTARY NATIONAL REVIEW OF THE SDGs

The Government of South Sudan through the Ministry of Finance and Planning launched the first Voluntary National Review of the Sustainable Development Goals in a ceremony jointly organized by development partners (UNDP and UN Residence Coordinator’s Office).

The Voluntary National Review focused on 5 out of the 17 items of in Sustainable Development Goals namely; 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education, 13 (climate action) and 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions).

In his key note address at the launching event, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Agok Makur Kur stressed the importance of self-review process to ascertain how the country is progressing in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. He added that the outcome of the review will help the country to strategize its action plans and streamline its priorities to meet the set goals.

On her part, the UN Residence Coordinator, Ms. Anita Kiki Gbeho said that voluntary reviews are steps taken by each UN member country to assess their progress on implementation of the SDGs.

The event was attended by a number of ministers, undersecretaries, Directors Generals from the different government institutions as well as UN agencies, diplomatic Corp, international and national NGOs, civil society organizations, women and youth groups.
