WORLD BANK/ IMF SPRING MEETING TACKLES INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

On the third day of the World Bank/ IMF Spring meeting in Washington DC, the government delegation led by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dier Tong Ngor attended the Africa Group One constituency meeting plenary.

The meeting discussed infrastructural development of the region with emphasis on roads network project funded by World Bank and regional governments.

The team also held a separate meeting with the World Bank country team headed by the Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa and discussed the progress of implementation of World Bank funded projects in South Sudan.

The identified areas of development and cooperation included transport sector to connect South Sudan with Kenya through Nadapal, Energy sector to find an alternative to support the existing EZRA power plant in Juba, Education sector to support free education and empower teachers, Digital development to assure ICT connectivity and digital integration and migration of data, Water and hygiene to ensure provision of clean, safe drinking water for all and finally financial sector support to ensure microeconomic finance, competitiveness and innovative measures to support entrepreneurship.

The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority, Patrick Mugoya who was among the government delegation presented the work of NRA in the first quarter of 2022/2023 fiscal year.

The NRA boss stressed the significant progress made as a result of what he described as ‘a positive work’ of his institution in tax collection and timely remittance of public funds to the ministry of Finance and planning.
