GOVERNMENT DELEGATION TO THE 2025-WORLD BANK/ IMF ANNUAL MEETING RETURNS FROM WASHINGTON DC

The Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Athian Ding Athian, accompanied by Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow Akongdit, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Planning, participated in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group held in Washington, D.C.

During the meetings, the delegation held a series of strategic engagements with the leadership of the IMF, the World Bank, development partners, and other international financial institutions.

The discussions on macroeconomic stability, concessional financing, exchange rate stabilization and the home-grown economic progress on Public Financial Management reforms which promotes transparency in oil and non-oil revenue management to restore economic stability and strengthen governance and inclusive growth.

Key areas of discussion focused on fiscal and monetary policy reforms aimed at strengthening South Sudan’s macroeconomic stability and promoting sustainable growth.

The discussions on Fiscal Policy focused on; Strengthening fiscal discipline and expenditure management, enhancing domestic revenue mobilization and Improving debt management and public financial governance frameworks.

While, discussions on Monetary Policy focused on; Modernizing South Sudan’s financial sector and digital payments ecosystem, Enhancing the effectiveness of monetary policy implementation and Stabilizing the foreign exchange market through robust and effective policy instruments.

The delegation met with key partners including; African Exim Bank, African Trade and Investment Development Insurance, African Development Bank and the US government officials at the US State Department and Members of Senate Committee on Foreign relations.

Overall, the meetings were productive and reaffirmed the Government’s strong commitment to advancing South Sudan’s economic reform and development agenda.

The Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Bank of South Sudan extended their sincere appreciation to the IMF, World Bank, and all development partners for their continued support in advancing South Sudan’s reforms and development.
