IMF deputy chief for African Affairs visits South Sudan

The deputy Director for African Affairs at the International Monetary Fund, Catharine Patillo arrived in Juba on Thursday to discuss economic cooperation with top government officials.

Cathy’s visit to Juba comes a few days after the minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dr. Dier Tong led a government delegation to Washington DC to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF.

While in Juba, the visiting IMF official met with the Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dr. Dier Tong, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Hon. Johnny Ohisa and concluded her meetings on Saturday with the President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Cathy informed President Kiir about a planned visit to Juba by a high-level delegation of global finance experts of the IMF.

She also assured her institution’s commitment to support South Sudan in responding to global economic challenges such as rising food prices, inflation and financial assistance.

The meeting also focused on public financial management and the efforts exerted by the government to ensure accountability and transparency in all public transactions with an aim of achieving economic prosperity.
